She Did What?!

Watching movies has always been one of my favorite things to do, but as a senior in college, I don't always have that much free time. When my professor said that I could write a blog looking at different movies and TV shows for my final project in my Media Criticism class, I jumped at the opportunity. I mean, what could be better than getting to watch movies and writing about them for a class! However, there was a catch. I couldn't just watch movies and write about them, I had to choose a specific element to analyze. So, I decided to focus on one aspect of films that has always been interesting to me, which is the role of female characters. By using a mixture of semiotic analysis, Marxist analysis, psychoanalytic criticism and sociological analysis we can see how roles of female characters have changed over the years.

So that brings up the question, "She Did What?!" I chose the title of this blog to look at how the role of female character has changed but also to ask that question. I wanted to look at how the female fit the role that she was portrayed as and how her actions defined her.
